Talking about sustainability with Besani

The green work in progress

Besani creates high quality knit fabrics, promoting premium natural fibres such as lisle cotton (extra-long staple), which are yarn dyed and mercerized, and then piece-mercerized to guarantee long-lasting finished garments.

In addition to company certifications such as Oeko-Tex STeP, Ethic-Et by Tessile e Salute, ZDHC Supplier to Zero and ESG Impresa Sostenibile Certificata di NeXt Index, it has also obtained product certifications Oeko-Tex Standard 100, GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) and GRS (Global Recycle Standard). In September 2014 it joined the Greenpeace Detox campaign to eliminate harmful chemicals from its in-house processes and supply chain. The project was completed in 2019 with the participation of the entire supply chain. In 2020, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, Besani joined the Better Cotton Initiative (B.C.I.), the organisation aiming to improve the standard of living of cotton growers whilst improving the environment by providing education on water management and pesticide use. In the social and ethical field, in 2021 it partnered with Humana People to People Italia and Occhio del Riciclone Coop. Sociale Onlus to begin reusing excess textiles.

This year Besani is taking part in the ECOTESS project, promoted by Associazione Ambiente e Lavoro, Legambiente Lombardia with the backing of the Varese Chamber of Commerce, which aims to promote good practice in recycling consumer textile waste and industrial waste management in a bid to foster a circular economy that encourages reuse and recycling.
