SFA and CCMI sign Joint Statement on Durability in A&F PEFCR

Goal to strengthen the commitment to protect natural materials

The Sustainable Fibre Alliance (SFA), the world’s first global organisation dedicated to cashmere sustainability, and the Cashmere and Camel Hair Manufacturers Institute (CCMI), which represents the interests of producers and manufacturers of camel hair, cashmere and superfine wool, have signed the Joint Statement on Durability in A&F PEFCR. The endorsement of SFA and CCMI broadens the impact of the statement, linking it to a global network of supply chain actors, stakeholders and industry experts committed to providing honest and transparent information to consumers and driving positive change in natural fibre value chains. “The Sustainable Fibre Alliance is pleased to join the Joint Statement on Durability in A&F PEFCR, highlighting the global collaboration among animal fibre supply chains in the field of consumer information on product durability and sustainability. This statement highlights the urgent need for accurate and fair metrics for the durability of natural materials, such as cashmere and leather, as cornerstones of responsible production and consumption,” says Una Jones, CEO and founder of the Sustainable Fibre Alliance.

“At the same time, this collaboration strengthens our commitment to protecting and championing natural materials and the essential role they play in the circular economy, in a world increasingly dominated by artificial substitutes marketed as sustainable alternatives. Together, we are paving the way to a future in which sustainability is not just a goal but a shared responsibility that connects industries and nations,” says Fabio Garzena, President of CCMI. “We are delighted to welcome Sustainable Fibre Alliance and Cashmere and Camel Hair Manufacturers Institute as signatories to the Joint Statement on Durability in A&F PEFCR. Their endorsement highlights the urgent need for the circular economy benefits of natural materials to be better known and appreciated. This is why we all need durability parameters for apparel and footwear that ensure that the environmental footprint truly reflects reality rather than fast fashion practices,” concludes Gustavo Gonzalez-Quijano, Secretary General of COTANCE.
