Gunold Spring/Summer 2025
Trends in embroidery and textile embellishments
The key words for Gunold‘s Spring/Summer 2025 collection reflect what is going on in our society, and echo our desires and worries. Craft is not just a slogan because it is clear that the more of our lives we spend online the more we yearn for something ‘real’, something personal and handmade; we admire and respect traditional techniques and craftsmanship. Nature is another key word: our environment is virtual, we are constantly online on all kinds of social media and artificial intelligence is everywhere.
So we need to learn to love and appreciate our essence again, to at least go for combinations of natural and artificial materials. On its Colour of the Year 2024 (Peach Fuzz 13-1023), Pantone says: “Subtly sensual, a heartfelt peach hue with a tender touch, Peach Fuzz communicates a message of caring and sharing, community and collaboration”. Indeed, it only takes a few matching fabrics, yarns and accessories to create a truly special, welcoming mood. Handmade embroidery, beads and shells give light feelings of luxury, enhancing any garment or accessory. Inspiration comes from the huge variety of natural materials such as feathers, cotton, bark and cork. Naturally, Gunold could not develop a Spring/Summer collection without using flowers: but for this season they are embroidered flawed and alienated, using more sophisticated graphic details or embroidering with technical threads such as phosphorescent or reflective yarns.
Brilliant, fiery red is another key colour for summer 2025. But flawless results will not be the goal, quite the opposite in fact: imperfect is the new perfect! Handmade designs are used as embroidery models and digitalised using fancy stitch ideas. Imperfection also plays an essential role here. Finally, there is always room for animal motifs and classic and elegantly designed natural motifs. The smart use of digitalisation effects allows to play with structure and dimension, bringing depth and class to the designs.
