In granddad’s old study, a desk drawer holds the story of time. Clear prints, yellow polaroids and faded photos bear witness to fundamental encounters that branch out and germinate between generations. The most spontaneous, natural connection is between siblings bonded for life even before they are born. In the family, parallel paths repeatedly cross over one another. Fleeting childhood is captured so that we can relive that inimitable innocence in the future. Words spoken by older family members are the soundtrack to a fragmented, otherwise silent, film. Inseparable couples who have danced on the same floor for decades, at once observers and protagonists, look back at their lives in the knowledge of a life well lived, looking after one another. Moments of carefree living, tender enjoyment and distant friends coming together. Unconditional affection, unquestioning trust and unspoiled admiration spring from the eyes of a girl gazing spellbound at her brothers and sisters or in the caring and protective caress of a grandmother to her granddaughter. Taking refuge and feeling small in gentle bear hugs, turning back the hands of time. Fleeting moments, little discoveries and intimate escapes, captured by the guardians of a fragility that is yet to learn about brutality. Reassuring ticks during which we remember our first dates, boys unaware of their emotions and playful, complicit glances printed, out of focus, on glossy paper. Impossible not to feel a warm wave of tenderness from these memories of accidental connections.
