Mainetti Italia presented its accessories collection for Autumn/Winter 2023.24 on 12 July at the beautiful Sozzani Gallery at 10 Corso Como Milan. The presentation took place alongside an exhibition of work by artist Antonio Barrese, in a contemporary dialogue combining his experimental, technological style with Mainetti’s creativity.
Colour is used in the collection as a distinctive, playful and despotic element, becoming a stylistic detail in the three high-tech lines Marlon, Switch and Repair. Moodboards were displayed across three rooms while expert technicians were on hand to offer explanations and information on the collection’s features and strengths.
Marlon is inspired by casualwear: the contrast between the tailoring elegance and comfort of cargo pants interconnects two distant worlds joined by items of colour and creative solutions, enhancing and elevating plain style. It’s the details that make the difference here, like the raised characters or white lettering saying ’call to action’ featured in the hangers line. The colour palette is dominated by black and white, with touches of yellow and brown.
Switch evokes Cushy Travel in which airport road signs inspire labels and hang tags in soft materials and recycled Lycra. The accessories are style components that help designers in the creative process. Thermal abrasive printing, recycled Lycra on zip pullers, Velcro personalisation on accessories such as hats and backpacks, a hang tag-gadget-wallet hung on a snap hook to be stitched to the garment – these are features built into the clothing, not just accessories. The colours this time are bold: neon yellow, bright orange, asphalt grey, black and lettering revealed under light.
Lastly, Repair is the sportswear line where adventure is all about discovering new forms of craftsmanship and seeking out natural simplicity. The label in intarsia washable and stitchable wood is a new item produced by expert cabinetmakers. Paperform Hanger, made from recycled paper, plastic-free and 100% recyclable, is a clear ‘green’ message for customers and the planet. The recurring theme throughout the line is a multi-coloured fabric band that doubles as a non-slip feature on the hanger, a fastener on the eco-card boxes and a decoration on the transparent polybags with coloured backs. Green, blue and red alternate with saturated colours for an accessory that can enjoy a second life, boasting upcycling credentials and proper materials management in line with nature and sustainability.
