Talking about sustainability
with YKK ITALIA

The green work in progress

As part of the goals of YKK Corporation’s Sustainability Vision 2050, YKK Italia is committed to cutting the environmental impact of its products, processes and organisation through a variety of sustainability initiatives. One of the most important is combating climate change: from this year the installation of a photovoltaic system at its Prarolo production facility will enable YKK Italia to further reduce direct emissions. All emissions from burning natural gas, such as those generated by boilers, cogenerators, etc., are offset through the CER (Certified Emission Reduction) scheme.

To reduce scope 2 emissions, all the electricity supply purchased by YKK Italia comes from 100% renewable sources, certified according to UNI EN ISO 14064. YKK Italia‘s plastic packaging is made from recycled material (50% to 95%), and all cellulose packaging and printing paper are also made from recycled materials (64% to 100%).  The virgin cellulose it uses is FSC® certified. YKK Italia, alongside other leading companies in the fashion industry, is also part of the multistakeholder project Monitor for Circular Fashion, set up with the scientific contribution of Sustainability Lab SDA Bocconi and the cross-industry vision of Enel X.

The aim is to contribute to the transition towards more circular business models through concrete, measurable solutions. The quality of the product and production process and sustainable choices in selecting materials are strong prerogatives and core values for YKK. In the interests of continual improvement, YKK Italia runs regular internal and external audits to update its ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, Oeko-Tex® and GRS certifications.
