‘Icon Vintage Dress’:
book by Beatrice Brandini

A timeless handbook on the history of fashion

With a lifelong interest in vintage dresses and accessories, Beatrice Brandini has decided to turn her passion into a job: having studied as a stylist and specialised in Fashion Design at Polimoda, after many collaborations and experiences at multinational fashion companies, she began a fashion, art and design blog in 2013. Eight years later the project has been turned into a book, ‘Icon Vintage Dress’.

Throughout this time Beatrice has explored and considerably expanded the topic, looking back at the most unforgettable dresses in the history of fashion and the beautiful work produced by top brands, sketching out their vision, taste and style. ‘Icon Vintage Dress’ aims to be a little handbook on the history of 20th century dress from which anyone studying fashion can draw inspiration. From Comme des Garçons’ ‘conceptual’ work through Missoni’s ‘magical’ knits, Marras’ ‘dreamy romantic’, Armani’s ‘elegance’, Ferré’s ‘architectural design’, Moschino’s ‘irony’, Dolce & Gabbana’s ‘Mediterranean femininity’ to Ferretti’s ‘timeless romanticism’.

Not forgetting the brands whose trademark colours have become bywords in the industry, like ‘Valentino red’, ‘Armani greige’ and Schiaparelli ‘shocking pink’. The creations and discoveries of yesteryear are turned into an inspiration, guide and challenge for the present and the future: looking to the past is not just about nostalgia but also culture and respect.
