Besani makes high quality knit fabrics using the very best natural fibres, such as yarn-dyed and mercerized lisle yarn cotton. In addition to Oeko-Tex STeP company certification, it has also obtained the product certifications Oeko-Tex Standard 100, GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) and Ethic-Et by Tessile e Salute Association. It joined the Greenpeace Detox campaign in September 2014 to eliminate harmful chemicals from its in-house processes and its supply chain. The project was completed in 2019 with the collaboration of all suppliers. It has worked with Milan Polytechnic, Blumine and other companies on the F-Susy project for safer textile chemicals.
It has also implemented complete traceability by inserting a QR code into its hang tags. This enables the customer to see where the cotton came from, where it was spun, dyed and mercerized, and where the fabric was manufactured and finished. In 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the company joined the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI), the association aiming to improve the standard of living of farm workers whilst improving environmental conditions by providing education on water management and pesticide use.
In the social and ethical field, in 2021 the company partnered with Humana People to People Italia and with Occhio del Riciclone Coop. Sociale Onlus to begin reusing excess textiles.
