Dior meets Erl
“We have collaborated with a lot of people on our collections, but this time I wanted to work differently: I wanted someone who saw Dior from another angle. With Eli Russell Linnetz, I enjoyed not only working with a younger designer and seeing things from their perspective, but it was also incredibly exciting. Simple and revelatory all at the same time.” So says Dior Homme creative director Kim Jones while presenting the new Dior Spring 2023 collection, created alongside Californian brand ERL.
The capsule collection fuses the savoir-faire of Parisian high fashion with American pop culture, as demonstrated by the asphalt of Windward Avenue (Venice Beach in California) being painted bright blue just for the show. “First we went to the archive in the year when I was born, 1991, when Gianfranco Ferré was in charge of the brand.
This part of Dior’s history was the most exciting for me and Kim. The idea of maximalism comes from there and from my universe, a mixture of chaos and perfectionism,” says Eli Russel Linnetz. The pieces in the collection transcend different generations in time and space, merging to take on new life. Dior’s signature precision tailoring contrasts with an everyday, relaxed and casual sensitivity.
