Filomena Guzzo against gender violence

Artist’s work exhibited at MAMA Maison Malvasia

OUT-FIT is the new installation created by artist Filomena Guzzo to mark International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November 2025. The work is presented at MAMA Maison Malvasia in Bologna, a non-profit association that promotes initiatives and workshops dedicated to sustainability and ethical fashion. The name OUT-FIT is intended to be an invitation to shun violence in order to regain one’s balance and identity, where OUT recalls the desire to get away from what is negative, while FIT evokes the idea of adaptation and reconnection with oneself.

OUT-FIT consists of silent and “seated” outfits made at the style workshops, whereby each participant proposed an outfit starting with second-hand clothes and mixing shapes, colours and intentions, thus creating a symbolic gesture to give voice to what had been cast aside. The installation is also dedicated to Diego Benecchi, leader of the 1977 Student Movement, who passed away on 10 May 2025, and Filomena Guzzo’s teacher, thanks to whom she was able to bring awareness to all schools in the area. These are the words used by the artist to introduce her work: “There are no bodies here, just absences. All that remains are the clothes of women whom no one would have imagined would turn out to be victims. Violence does not choose: it affects everyone. It destroys everything. These out-fits shout what many do not want to see: that freedom can be snatched away in an instant, that life can end without a sound, that behind every woman there is a story that can be extinguished. And here, all that remains of her is her outfit”.

The installation is open from 25 to 28 November, from 16:00 to 20:30 at 27 Via Malvasia, Bologna. For information, contact the MAMA Maison Malvasia association at malvasiamaison@gmail.com.
