Futurmoda 56 Approaches

The starting point for materials for Autumn/Winter 2027/28

From 14 to 15 October, the IFA exhibition centre in Elche, Alicante, will host the 56th edition of Futurmoda, the International Fair of Leather, Components and Machinery for Footwear and Leather Goods. The event will bring together over 300 exhibitors representing the entire production supply chain of the sector.

Rather than a showcase of finished products, Futurmoda is where future collections take shape. It is here that tanneries, companies specialising in components, machinery developers and innovators in synthetic materials meet, 12–18 months ahead of the collections reaching the market. For designers, fashion creators and industry professionals, the event therefore represents one of the most reliable platforms for understanding the directions the sector will take.

The proposal for the 56th edition is already looking towards Autumn/Winter 2027/28, presenting materials and components destined to become key features of future collections. Emerging trends include natural leathers enhanced by high-impact surface treatments, technical synthetic materials that combine high performance with design-led innovation, and components that preserve artisanal tradition while meeting the demands of industrial production. It is a continuous dialogue between the organic and the architectural, where volume, texture and structured silhouettes reflect the growing consumer demand for durable, tactile and authentic products, in contrast to the logic of disposability.

This vision is also captured in the event’s chosen key visual: a central figure emerges from a landscape of organic forms, surrounded by oversized botanical motifs, sculptural blooms and a palette combining the earthy tones of clay with intense crimsons and deep midnight blues. A visual concept that anticipates the material and surface research set to define the upcoming season.
