Feel the Yarn #08

New ‘Riding the change’ issue A/W 2023.24

Pennac tells us that when we can’t change the world, we have to change how we look at it, including from perspectives and angles that may seem marginal. This is the input given to us by Elisabetta Scarpini – creative, artist and Feel the Yarn magazine‘s art director – who thought it was particularly apt for this period of uncertainty and instability, in which we are being tested and our very future is being called into question. Concepts like design and construction have become increasingly vague and less and less dependent on individual hard work and prerogatives.

We need to fine-tune our ability to adapt and change, reassured by our wealth of experience and knowledge, and finally manage to look to the horizon with the faith arising from shared experiences. Issue 08 of Feel the Yarn, entitled ‘Riding the change’, proposes four possible paths for tackling change with pride. The first, ‘Metamorphosis’, is about changing state, evolving, tackling change head on, but also transforming and creating new life through recycling and reuse. A story about dynamism and movement, the ability to transform and renew, far removed from fear and uncertainty. The second path, ‘Empathy’, calls for sharing, solidarity, complicity and inclusion to be at the basis of the process. The strength of reciprocity and being together: a comfort zone that allows us to take the long view.

In ‘Exploring tradition’, craftsmanship, know-how, skill, personal and collective experiences combine to create cultural heritage to be passed down and used as a springboard for new perspectives. Finally, carpe diem, seize the moment: ‘The dimension of the possible’ focuses our attention on the present, the immediate, the here and now. This can shed light and give us insight into new and surprising possibilities, forward-thinking interpretations of the real: the present as a place for the possible.
