Shy | Season Trends

The inner world of shy people is a place of constant turmoil. Awkward gestures and hesitant smiles conceal a level of commotion that they struggle to keep at bay. Their delicate reticence barely hides a powerful flow; their irremediable embarrassment is like a dam rising to stem the flood of a river of deep sensitivity, colourful imagination and overwhelming emotions. That river sometimes overflows, allowing a glimpse of all the beauty that can be hidden behind a reluctant glance, restless finger fidgeting or awkward legs crossing. A beauty as fragile as it is proud, reserved and hesitant, like that of the datura flower that only blossoms at night. We live in the days of the mirrors in which everyone wants to be reflected. In a world of ‘I show, therefore I am’. Of frenzy, brazenness and exhibitionism. It’s a time for extroverts, a time to ‘let all in’ and ‘get it all out’, a time when everyone always has something to say and to prove, when we only exist when we are performing. But could a shy person’s smile be the antidote to all this?  Could their anachronistic reluctance save them from the battle of excesses? Could a hand raised like a shield between the face and the camera, the shirt sleeve pulled over gnawed nails or the cap pulled down to hide messy hair protect them from flawless perfection at all costs? Can slightly clumsy stumbles, gaffes and blunders ever replace the performative confidence that today’s world demands of them and of all of us? These questions will have to be left hanging. Like their dangling legs that do not reach the floor from the chair. And they do not demand an answer, because shy people are like that, with so many inquiries and so few solutions, they are ready to defend themselves, with reserve and discretion, from the attacks of the outside world, but never as much as from the raging river of their soul.
